# LaTex Support on the Commons

LaTex is a “a document markup language and document preparation system for the TeX typesetting program” (Wikipedia). It is particularly useful when representing mathematical expressions, and is widely used by the scientific community.

Support for LaTex on the Commons

Members who use LaTex need to know how the Commons supports this markup language. It is best to break down support down by the Commons’ various platforms:

• WordPress Posts and Pages

Users will need to activate the “WP LaTex” plugin. Once this is done, they will need to enter their LaTex markup between $…$ tags or, alternatively, between $latex …$ tags. See the following for two syntax examples:

1. $e^{\i \pi} + 1 = 0$
2. $latex e^{\i \pi} + 1 = 0$
• BuddyPress Docs and Group Forums

LaTex support is automatically provided. Use syntax above. No plugin is required.
